  • Between now and October we have the opportunity to layout our own conditions for the future of Calgary. The civic election - mayor, counselors  trustees shouldn't be about personalities, it should be about a vision for tomorrow, the problems we face and solutions, and candidates listening to citizens. If we hire a candidate what will Calgary look like in 2017 and beyond. How will they work to ensure that the preferred future is created? It should be about citizens raising concerns (not the elected or administration) and making them election issues. This is the opportunity to hold some feet to the fire. Is the issue value for money? Are we getting what we pay for? Are services up to your standard or should they be improved or cut? Is the City Charter too big a concept for us to get our heads around during an election? Gas the City imposed itself too deeply into our lives or are there gaps where they should be involved more? There are lots of days I wonder " why the hell are they wasting their time talking about that?" Do they really think I want them watching my every move and telling me where/when/how/why I should or shouldn't do something? is 150000 employees too many or too few? Is the CBE do a good job helping parents raise strong, wise caring citizens? Does CSSD or CBE meet the needs of children and families or just a place for children to go so parents can work? How have the trustees handle important decisions? Are elected officials open and transparent with their decisions or do they spend too much time 'in camera'? Will you participate in the election? Work on a campaign? Attend forums and debates? Question your representatives? Vote? Do you care?
